best trip

For myself , this is the best trip. Of course, proper physical condition required this, not for everyone. A little bit too much for my wife and daughter
No problem for me because i usually enjoy hiking.
One thing I advise your company when you arranage flight, such as international flight changing time should be at least one and half hour, preferably two hour. We missed connecting flight for Nice at Zurich ( only 55min on our schedule) At best we waited next available one for almost 4 hours. Tour directer (Tristan)and Tour bus driver (Michele)are best..

Great fun and exercise.

This trip provided a wonderful overview of the Provence region thanks to the knowledgeable guide (JJ), the sites for walking, and the food and wine.

a good overall view of Provence

This tour seemed to hit the major high spots in Provence and give us a good overall sense of the area. I particularly enjoyed the stops in small town markets and purchasing cheese, olives, bread (oh so fresh) and wine for a picnic. Twice was just about the right number of times for this. The visit to the perfume company was interesting; the wine tasting at Mousset was disappointing---only 3 wines of which one was not even from the Chateauneuf area.
Suggestions: another day in Cannes instead of just one night; only one day out of Avignon to the Gorge area and small towns instead of two; more level scenic "walks" (like the one in Nice), rather than a steep climb through uninteresting forest (as in St. Baume); someplace other than that hotel for the last night's dinner (it was very substandard compared to all the others).

French Walking Tour

I have travelled with Go Ahead in the past and I love you guys. Every time I call your offices you are helpful and courteous. The trips are wonderful. Here is what I thought about the Provence trip. First, I would rather have spent more time in Cannes and Nice rather than heading to Manosque. Second, the tour guide and the first bus driver were just lovely. The villages and towns were very beautiful and while the first walk was very challenging, the others were perfect. Lastly, I would have enjoyed a little more free time to explore the cities of Cannes and Nice.

WALKING WITH PASSION

I just returned from Provence..each day there packed to the gills with places to go, things to see, things to do; the tour guide was so full of passion for the region, knowledgeable of each town-not just The Town, but its history as well..that I felt the energy too. He gave us many opportunities to wander..and many memories to cherish.
The driver was excellent, often offering us bottled water before a hike. His ability to traverse many narrow roads was outstanding!
I felt well-cared for in a very diverse group of 19 travelers..again, the tour guide took exceptional care of all of us.
Thank you for this experience!

too much bus time, not enough walking

There was not nearly enough walking on this trip, and entirely too much time on the bus, driving winding roads for hours only to stop out for 5 minutes in a village to take a picture. There was not enough time spent in Aix, and too much time spent in the remote countryside. The tour director was knowledgeable and interesting, but as with other tour directors with Go Ahead, he liked to hear himself talk too much - especially on the bus when people wanted to rest. The Avignon hotel was small, quaint, and lovely, and I enjoyed the excursion to Monaco very much, but the last night dinner amid teenage travelers in a conference-like restaurant was dreadful - horrible food and zero ambiance. More walks should be planned for this trip, where people can leisurely stroll or hike to see the countryside. The few walks that were available were too short or not often enough, and the group of travelers was of an age that did not allow them to take brisk walks. The trip should be marketed better so that people who can not walk 4-5 miles, do not come. Or, if the hotel in the middle of the trip were not so far out of town (though it was a lovely place - clean and well decorated, just not central to anything of interest), then those who cannot walk long distances, would be happy staying at the hotel during the day, relaxing by the pool or seeing the local sites on their own.

Superior in Every Way

Go Ahead once again did not disappoint in any way. The itinerary was excellent, the accomodations well located and very comfortable and the food superior. The tour is extremely good value. Provence is, of course, outstandingly beautiful and this tour captures its varied geography and multitude of delights wonderfully. Each day was enjoyable and planned so that you were never too tired but anxious for the next day's new experiences.
It must be said, moreover, that the quality of the tour was most certainly elevated to outstanding by the knowledge, energy, thoughtfulness and good humour of our Tour Director, Tristan Bayles. He went far above and beyond any reasonable expectations every day. What an asset he is to your company! I guess I shoudn't have been surprised, mind you: my 2009 experiences on the Food and Wine Tour with the extraordinary John Jaques Legalle were equally oustanding.

Walking tour of Provance + 3 days in Paris

First tour with GoAhead. Very impressed overall. Would recommend this trip to anyone that likes to see places buses cannot take you all the way to. Does require a good bit of uphill walking, but the churches and castle remains and views are well worth the effort

Walking Tour of Provence

Outstanding tour! Jean-Jacques, our tour director, was simply the best. The group truly bonded partly due to his enthusiasm. He changed the order of the tour and made it better. He even included things that weren't listed such as visiting Daudet's Moulin and the village of Les Baux. His stories from his 22 years of leading tours kept us laughing throughout the trip!
Provence was beautiful. The perched villages were delightful. The meals included on the trip and the excursions were all delicious, especially the Provencal lunch.
Thank you GoAhead for arranging for some wonderful travel memories!

Wonderful Trip to Provence

This "Walking Tour of Provence" was wonderful in every way. We were able to experience the wonders of cities like Nice as well as the beautiful countryside small hamlets. The pace of the tour was very active and challenging but certainly doable for most all of our tour companions. Our guide was at it 24/7 and did a fantastic job. In short, do yourself a favor and take this Provence tour and experience the food, wine and beautiful wonders of the region.

Walking tour of Provence

Beyond my expectations. Tristen, our guide was the best. He was always up beat, interesting, fun...The walking part of the trip was so fabulous, because there was, as usual, so much sight seeing and culture, that is was a wonderful break, sort of, to do some sort of walking excursion every day. A friend of mine, who knows Provence, was impressed that I got to see so much in so short of time. And I even got small bits of free time to do a little of what I particularly love to do, swim in the ocean and paint. And we would have done a fantastic swim with Tristen, except for those jelly fish!!! I am going back to France for more.

Go Ahead has done it again!

This was our second tour with Go Ahead and, as with our Tuscany walk, the trip exceeded our expectations. Our guide went out of his way so that we could experience a detail or two that we would otherwise have missed. The hotels were clean, the beds comfortable and all the included meals were tasty. Our fellow tourists were intelligent, well-travelled and interesting. People should know that this tour includes some climbing. My wife and I completed all the ascents and were invigorated by the activity and awestruck with the views when we reached the summit. Art enthusiasts will enjoy the "close encounters" with Van Gogh in Arles and Cezanne in Aix-en-Provence. This tour accomplished the goal implied in the title: it showed us an exciting part of France in depth.

Provence: The gem of France

Bright yellow, clear blue, warm red--those are the colors of the tablecloth we bought in Nice, and the colors we saw all around us during our trip to Provence. Our tour guide told us delightful tales about everything we saw--even the trees had a story to tell. Some of the walking was a bit challenging, but we enjoyed everything about the trip--and we had the best meals we've ever had on a tour. We'd really recommend it for all.

Grand Memories

My trip to France was so exciting. The countryside is beautiful, there were no bad views. The small villages we stopped at were quaint with many interesting little shops. Found some beautiful pottery in one little village that the shop owner shipped home for me. The food and wine were the best, with the lavender creme brulee at the top of the list. The hiking was excellent, the sites breathtaking, our guide knew "everthing" no matter where we where. The tour of Fregonard Parfumeur in Grasse was educational and the retail store at the end of the tour was a good place to buy some lovely gifts.
My favorite part of the tour was Giverny. I love Monet and getting to see the gardens, the lily pond and the bridge represented in so many paintings was a dream come true. A place I will have to return to someday.
I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves France, good food and good wine.

Everything about this tour was perfect. It was perfect size , perfect guide, perfect pace, and perfect destination. My sister and I enjoyed this trip so much that we still talk about it all the time. We loved all the little hilltop villages, the markets, the food, the art, and especially the history. Everything was beautiful, but we were a little early for the lavendar to be blooming. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history and would spend time when we were on the bus giving us details about places we were going or places we had just been.
One of my favorite things was the visit to Cezanne's studio in Aix-en-Provence. It was amazing to see where he painted and there were still some of his props that he used in his paintings! Another favorite of mine was the walk from the asylum where Van Gogh lived to St. Remy. All along the trail there were markers where Van Gogh had painted some of his most famous paintings.
Overall, the walks were not difficult. And if anyone didn't want to walk, they didn't have to. It was a very relaxed and enjoyable experience. I would take that tour again someday.

Another great trip with GoAhead!

Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed my latest trip with GoAhead. And, it seems the well-informed Tour Guide was instrumental in making the trip so informative and fun.
Everything was wonderful.

I used to think that the backyard-picked fruits and veggies from my childhood farm in MI could never be surpassed for their delectable taste. I was wrong--the foods I consumed on the Walking Provence tour in the markets and restaurants were in a culinary league of their own for indescribable flavor and freshness. The blast of colors from the market stands were rivaled only by those of Provence itself, from the burnt orange of the ochre mines to the breathtaking hues of endless fields of lavender. Walking Provence was an unrivaled sensory paradise.
