Great tour. Alex was a great tour guide. Funny, charning and entertaining plus knowledgable. A great mix.
Breathtaking views, great exercise. A little of everything rolled into one.

A wonderful experience to the Top of Europe.

First, I would like to say that our trip was very much enhanced by our tour guide Alex. He was charming, intelligent, extremely knowledgeable, spoke 5 languages & gave us some very active & sometimes challenging hikes, especially on the Matterhorn trail & walking down Mt Pilatus in the rain.
In spite of the fact that all of Europe, including Switzerland, was experiencing cloudy & sometimes rainey & foggy weather(very unseasonable for July), we had an absolutely marvelous time. The wines were great. The fondue & Swiss cheeses were wonderful, The festivals in Lucerne was great to participoate in & the people on our small tour were fun to be with. If you want to go on a walking tour of Switzerland, this is the one to go on & make sure you ask for Alex to be your tour guide & Carl to be your bus driver. Bon Voyage!!!

What's not to like

If you enjoy moderate hiking, hearing cow bells near and far, beautiful waterfalls, hiking through vineyards and enjoy sampling the wine, wonderful farmers markets with breads to die for,and all the beauty of the Alps. this is the trip for you. One you will never forget.

We Loved Switzerland

Accommodations were average. The meals that were included were very good to excellent. I wish there were more meals included. Our tour guide was great- a friendly knowledgable guy from the Netherlands. The bus driver was great and very accommodating. It was a small group which was wonderful. We saw alot of interesting things and beautiful scenery. We went on gondolas and cog railroads up mountain slopes for fantastic rides. We would like to have spent more time in Kleine Scheidegg to get a closer look at the north face of the Eiger as we read a couple books about climbing expeditions. We were lucky with the weather as it was clear to see the Matterhorn and when we rode the train above the clouds, it was sunny and clear to see the Eiger from Kleine Scheidegg.

Tour Leader

The tone set by the tour leader was relaxing. Under his leadership everyone in the group became friendly to each other and there was very little friction between members.

Great Hiking

Althought I was the youngest person on the trip by probably about 30 years, I enjoy the trip. I would recommend it to others my age as well as folks who are 60 or 70.

The Highlight was the High Point!

Although the title of this review may sound a bit confusing to the reader, it makes perfect sense to those on GoAhead Tour's Walking Tour of Switzerland. Being able to experience the highest point in Europe, Jungfraujoch, was like being on another planet for this south Louisiana girl, who lives below sea level. Being above 11,000 ft and experiencing the chilly breeze passing through the endless array of mountain peaks was truly breath taking!

Switzerland is a spectacularly beautiful country which deserves an adventure devoted solely to its many wonders and this is it. You will experience the incredible variety of this Alpine state from the vineyards of Lake Geneva to the awe inspiring Matterhorn and Jungfrau. You don't need to be a mountain trekker but you will have plenty of opportunity for moderate to challenging hiking. The itinerary is superb and our guide, Steve Gross, was tremendous: experienced, thoughtful, courteous, flexible and FUN. You travel West to East, from the Swiss Riviera of Lake Geneva, the magnificent Matterhorn (we had a cloudless day, what luck, and a picnic,) Interlaken and the amazing train to the Jungfraujoch, a once in a lifetime thrill, and finally to fashionable Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus. Each location is unique and very different. Do not miss the optional excursions to Annecy, the vineyard walk and wine tasting in the Lavaux, and Berne if offered. The walk along Lake Geneva at Montreux to Chillon, the hike near the Matterhorn, the trip to Lauterbrunnen (Tolkien's Rivendell) and the Jungfraujoch, the train up and the hike down Pilatus left me awed and breathless. We took lake cruises, cogwheel trains, and mountain gondolas. The hotels are very good as are the included meals. Don't miss eating rosti and if possible raclette. We were a group of 16 who were friendly and compatible. Steve took group shots at many scenic highlights which delighted us all. Pack a camera and at least a 2 gig memory card as well as clothes for warm and cold weather and good hiking shoes or boots. And don't be surprised by the aroma of curry at the Jungfraujoch - Bollywood favors the Alps and excited Indian film fans abound. Don't miss the splendor and sheer enjoyment of the Swiss Alps.

From 80 degree sunshine & flowers to the top of Europe's Jungfrau freezing snow and howling winds, this tour provided every season on earth in one jam-packed week of traveling this uniquely clean and green land-locked country int he center of the oldest continent on the surface of our planet. All I can say is WOW! The scenery leaves one speechless.

One trip isn't enough!!!

This was my first Go Ahead tour and it was a beauty! Hiking in the snow during the hottest summer on record is not to be under rated and we got to see the Matterhorn to boot! Words aren't enough to describe the mountains, you have to see for yourself.

This trip was so much better than the walking tour of Provence (which I enjoyed). There was a lot more walking, some of it quite strenuous. Taking the gondola in Zermatt and picnicking on the mountain (with the wine toted by our guide) was one of the highlights. Taking the train up to Jungfraujoch was quite exciting. But the best part, for me, was paragliding in Interlaken. Several of us did it, all but one for the first time, and it was amazing.
Also, lunching at a mountain restaurant with an adjoining playground allowed me to use a trampoline for the first time.
The whole trip was like a second childhood -- and with amazing scenery. I also lucked out with a small (just 13 people) group.

Our tour director, Julia Tenaglia, made this trip

Julia worked to give us a vacation beyond our dreams. Our walking companions were game for adventure. For example, three daring ones wanted to try hang-gliding in Interlaken. We all went to watch them land and share pictures. If we wanted to do an extra hike, Julie led us or put us on the right path. The FOOD! Wonderful little places Julie reservered for us.
All of our trips with GoAhead have be led be talented people.
