Istanbul Costal Tour

No doubt the best tour I have ever had. The guide was also the best. The history of the country and his humor he had when telling stories. He focused on important details and made every site so interesting. I was sorry it was over so soon. If I would have known I would have taken the extended tour.
Good job.

Excellent trip

This trip was excellent. The tour guide Mahmet was a great guide. We chose the extension in Istanbul, and I think it was the right thing to do. The itinerary did not include enough time in Istanbul & the extension helped us to visit a few more places.

I learned a lot about the political and religious history of Turkey. The tour director Mehmet shared a wealth of information about the history and culture of Turkey. This was a very active tour. We visited many archeological sites which required a lot of walking on uneven terrain and climbing steps without railings. I found my walking stick very helpful. We covered a lot of territory in a short time. All of the hotels were good and each one offered a wide selection of foods. I would recommend this tour to active travelers.

So much more to Turkey!

Trip to Istanbul and coastal Turkey was amazing! I didn't know what to expect, but saw how beautiful the country really was. The ruins (Ephesus!) were amazing to see and loved being in Istanbul. Definitely would recommend the Bosphorsus cruise!

a great trip..hard to describe in just a few words

Superb director!
It was well planned and executed and included a
good mix of experiences, from the big city markets in Istanbul to the ancient ruins at Troy, the balloon ride over Cappadocia and the tour of the carpet school and the boat ride on the Bosporus.
The experience of visiting a Moslem country and talking with Moslem people about their attitudes in regard to the current happenings in North Africa, was a valuable experience that all Americans should enjoy.

Turkey: Unique and A Bargain

My husband and I decided to go to Turkey because we know so many people who have gone there and everyone loved their visit. So we signed up for the Istanbul and Coastal Tour of Turkey which included the Istanbul extension. It was a trip of a lifetime and one I would HIGHLY recommend. Istanbul is a charming and enchanting city, very European, and full of fun things to do on your own. The Grand Bazaar, Spice Market and Flea Markets are amazing and most vendors speak English. The history of Turkey as seen in the 4 different ruins visited was carefully explained by our very capable guide, Suleyman. But I would recommend, if time permits, The Grand Tour of Turkey for it includes Cappadocia. Because we were traveling with a group of friends who could not all do the longer trip, I set up a private tour with 12 members of our group to Cappadocia after the Istanbul Extension. This was possibly my favorite part of the trip because of its uniqueness. It is not to be missed! Go Ahead did a GREAT job of presenting a variety of things to see and all of the optionals were very well priced. Take this trip - you'll love it!

Extraordinary Trip

This trip was an excellent mix of ancient and modern history. Seeing & touching ruins dating back over 5000 years is about as "hands-on" as one can get! Our tour guide, Suleyman Karaz, was an excellent organizer and communicator. Our group ranged from age 17 - 84, and he had something to offer everyone! "Istanbul and Coastal Turkey" is a "go for it" choice, especially if two weeks or less is your limit.

Tour was very interesting. The main drawback was that it should have been one or two days longer. Istanbul is huge and more time there was needed.
The other drawback was that our tour director did not have the best attitude -- he was short and sometimes snippy if he didn't like the question he was asked or felt he had covered the question already. Not a good quality in a tour director.

A trip through Biblical lands

One doesn't think of Turkey as having the ruins where St. Paul preached, or the house of the Virgin Mary. As someone who is not particularly religious, I think this was the most surprising aspect of our trip. As we drove along the mountainous Southwestern part of Turkey I imagined the ancient travelers, their messages, and the hardship of the rough terrain. I was truly transported back in time - a time that will continue to come alive for me even here at home as I re-read myths, stories from the Bible and of course pour over my trip literature. Where I didn't buy books on the site - I'll be going to the library... Got to read the Odyssey again too. Troy was inspirational - I don't agree with those who say there isn't much to see. The imagination takes you there.

Great Trip

Great tour guide, very knowledgeable about history and culture, also very easy to get along with. Lots of sites to see--mosques, palaces, Bosphorus cruise, Grand Bazaar and Spice Market shopping experiences. Ephesus was out of this world--the 'stop me in my tracks' moment that was phenomenal. Every stop along the way had something fantastic to offer. All hotel accomodations were 4 star or more, food was delicious everywhere. Thank you for putting all our requests together and making this trip happen exactly as we wanted it to. 4 stars to you, Go Ahead Tours!!!!
