Wonderful trip

Vania was fabulous - knowledgeable, kind, patient, hard-working.
Hotel was great and ina wonderful location.
Pompeii - beyond expectations. Assisi - could have spent several days there. Florence - glad we took the train. Scavi Tour was something I'll never forget.
Johanna - guide for Vatican and Coliseum was incredibly knowledgeable - excellent guide. Buses were very nice. Toast to Rome night tour was great. My only regret was that there was so little time to shop - but wouldn't have sacrificed any of our sight-seeing, so............maybe next time.

We arrived in Rome on Feb. 18, 2011 for the "Rome City Stay". Everything about the trip was excellent. The tour director, Nicola, was a delight, knowledgeable, and always willing to be helpful. We were glad we did the optional tours of the "Catacombs & St. Paul" and "Florence By Train." The hotel and location was great.
I just completed by travel blog about the trip. Please check it out to see all the wonderful things we did on the Go Ahead, Rome City Stay trip.

Great city to rome...

I enjoyed walking around Rome from our centrally located hotel. The people were gracious and always willing to assist with any questions. Our tour director was fantastic. I enjoy time to myself and this allowed me the time with others and time to explore on my own.

Perfect honeymoon trip!

My husband and I had never had a chance to go away in our 7 years of marriage. This was the perfect balance of enjoying the company of others and time to ourselves. Vania, our tour director worked with everyone to make their trip an individual trip and encouraged each of us to "explore". The stories we shared were fun and fabulous. I can not wait to plan my next trip. Choosing which one to take will be the challenge.

Rome City Tour

It was nice to travel with a group of our own. We were able to design it to our liking. We had a ton of free time to wander on our own. Our tour guide Vania was FANTASTIC!!!!! Wish we could have stayed forever!

Our tour director, Nicola, was our Mother Goose, and we, her little goslings. She answered every question we came up with. She researched our interests and provided maps for us. She became a friend. And Ioanna, our tour guide in Rome, was engaging and entertaining, very animated. I hated saying goodbye to her. Our hotel was wonderful: the room, the view, the breakfast, the location. I genuinely want to LIVE in Rome and am working to realize that dream

Rome city Stay

The tour director was wonderful, keeping up with requests and wishes of the entire group. The pace can be whatever you wish it to be. Rome is a marvelous city with art and history at every turn. Aside from all the usual sites, a side trip to Ostia is easy with public transportation and very worthwhile. Public transportation may be crowded, but easy to manage. The location of the hotel was perfect. I traveled with my granddaughter and would say that Rome is a city for all ages.

Great Trip to Rome

I thoroughly enjoyed my December trip to Rome - Rome City Stay.
My boyfriend and I opted for the 2-day extension, and SO glad we did! Nicola, our tour guide, was so helpful and available - she helped us do many things independently (in our free time) when some of our scheduled excursions were cancelled due to not having enough people signed up. She helped us schedule a day trip to Capri, and each day gave us excellent directions, instructions, recommendations etc for buses, the metro, restaurants. Our personal guided tours of the Vatican, Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's and Imperial Rome led by Giancarlo were exceptional. Those tours should NOT be missed!
The weather was great, and the hotel was in a super location - near the Termini Station. We did a lot of walking too (our choice) because there was just so much to see on every corner!. It was nice to unpack and be in the same place for 7 nights. It gave us time to explore, and really get the feel of Rome. A day trip to Florence can easily be done as well on the "fast train" - takes about 1.5 hrs and well worth it if you haven't seen Florence. I love Go Ahead's City Stays...the London/Paris City Stay is excellent as well! Looking forward to the next adventure!

Rome City stay

Rome is a fabulous city and visiting during th fisrt week in December the weather was comfortable and no crowds, excellent. Our tour director Nicola was excellent, personable, plesant, knowledgeable and very helpfull. The hotel location, staff, and breakfast, were all excellent the only negatives were that with no fan in the bathroom there tended to be a musty oder unless we left the window cracked open some of the time, also the free wifi was spotty and required a new pasword daily.Minour issues. Overall, our stay in Rome was excellent and I would not hesatate to recommend or do again some day, thankyou Go Ahead.

Historic Rome

The best parts of Rome are the phenomenal history and art that surrounds you anywhere you turn. The next is the food!

Rome City Stay....another GREAT Go-Ahead!!

Nicola, our tour director, was wonderful and very helpful for a couple things that Go-Ahead didn't offer....thank you, Nicola!! This was my 3rd trip to Rome and although I still love the city, I was a little disappointed in the areas that tourists are no longer allowed to go into. I understand the preservation of those areas, though. Wonderful food, as usual; great little outdoor dining areas. Very nice neighborhood for the hotel, as well.
We'll travel later again next time, too many tourists still in early October, November is better!! :)

Rome was great, but look closely at the Excursions

We went to Rome (City Stay) and Took the following excursions:
Pompeii
Florence
Vatican
Evening with the Tenors
and I would recommend every one except possibly the Florence excursion. Florence is a wonderful city and has some treasures that shouldn't be missed however the excursion they offer doesn't include the 2 biggest attractions; DAVID and the Ufuzi museam. Both of these had longer lines but you could buy an "appointment" for a specific time and see what you wanted to see, if you did so in advance but that isn't included in the tour. They take you on a walking tour around most of Florence but you don't have much time to "stop and smell the roses". In my group we lost 2 women to shopping and when the walking tour ended the rest of us ASKED TO SEE DAVID. Our tour director found a place to sell tickets for an appointment and took care of us (and we were GRATEFUL for that), but it baffles me why the 2 largest attractions weren't included in this trip. If you want to go to florence from ROME the trip was easy by train and I recommend you do it yourself and make your appointments to the Acadameia (to see David) and the the Ufuzi (Birth of Venus) in advance.

We just checked Rome in our bucket list.

My husband and I have a list of places to visit in our bucket list and Rome, Italy is one of the top three. This trip has definitely fulfilled our wish and we can put a check next to it. Rome is such a wonderful place to visit if you are one of those who is fascinated with history, ancient times and works of great artists. David Macchi, our tour director is so knowledgeable about the history of Rome and he made sure that we did not miss out anything that is a place of interest. He was very accommodating and always concerned about everyone in our group. When the excursion to the catacombs was cancelled, David gave our group a walking tour of the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, the Spanish steps and other places of interest (for free). He even treated us to gelato with choice of 3 flavors. My husband and I have nothing but high praise for David. The next countries that are in our bucket list are Spain and Portugal. We hope that we'll have a tour director who is as good as David. And we'll definitely book our trip with Go Ahead Tour.

rome city tour

I liked this tour. There are some things that i was not prepared for.
1. All restaurnats charge a service fee. Usually 15%, although there was one that charged only 1 euro for table service. this was the cheapest service charge.
2. At the coloseum and around some roman ruins you will find people dressed as gladiators. DO NOT PHOTOGRAGH THEM. They will demand money for that. My first day i was tricked into photographing one of them. After i took a couple of photos the man wanted 40 euros after some negotiating i managed to get it down to 20 euros. It was the next day that someone told me about those people dressed as gladiators, that some of them can get violent if you don't pay them. I was lucky that first day that the person was not violent and was negotiable. I wish someone had warned me the day i arrived of that situation. LET THIS POST BE A WARNING TO ANYONE WHO TAKES THIS TOUR THAT YOU SHOULD NOT PHOTOGRAPH THE GLADIATORS!!!!

Excellent, leisured and exciting trip.

Due mainly to our wonderful Tour Guide, we girls had a great and enjoyable time in Rome. Our guide was amicable and very accomodating. We did and visted all points of interest that we asked to see and enjoyed some fantastic meals, all very italian! I would certainly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to feel and experience the soul of Italy.

Trip fantastic. Tour director STEFANIA BODI, awesome!!!! Want to go with her again. Hotel, nice but had to change rooms three times. Twin beds smashed together for two women, not. Second room same thing, third room blow dryer not working and staff could care less. Thumbs down. Planning on another tour with you again, Tuscany, but only if Stefania can take us. Met new people and loved that experience. "Highlight"....St. Peter's Square for Easter Sunday, sit down seats, thanks to Stefania. Amazing! That made it very special.

Rome City Stay

Excellent trip! The service at the hotel was not the best, but the rest was outstanding. The tour director was outstanding and arranged everything, including easter mass in St. Peter's Square with the Pope! A truly awesome experience. Everything from transportation to guides to the food was outstanding. Truly a memorable vacation.

Great trip

Enjoyed our Rome city stay, side excursions to Florence and Pompeii. Mostly enjoyed the Vatican. The Sistine Chapel is breathtaking. Awesome!
We would like to go back to Italy and visit a few more cities. Be sure to take your walking shoes, a lot of walking in Rome!
