This was one of my favorite trips as it was the first trip to any South American country. June was an ideal time to travel. Many travelers in our group did not take the excursion to the Nazca Lines but I'm glad I didn't miss it. I can see why Machu Picchu is one of the "wonders of the world". We had an excellent tour guide, the food was great and we had centrally located hotels. Loved those alpacas and llamas. The only regret is the Amazon Rain Forest extension wasn't included in 2009.

Outstanding, Outstanding!!

I have never been to a place more enjoyable then Peru! We had a wonderful guide and the country has so many wonderul things to see and always an adventure.
The people of Peru are friendly and seeing their way of life was very enjoyable for us. I would go back in a heatbeat. The food is outstanding and so much history to see and just being there was awesome!

Expectations fulfilled and a lot of fun!

This was a great trip and our tour guide was professional and personable. The tour covered everything we expected and it was a fantastic experience. We had memorable laughs with Edwin, our tour guide, and everything went smoothly. I can't imagine seeing everything we saw and learned about the culture of the area without Go Ahead's guidance and direction for organized activities and for "free time" opportunities. I recommend this travel adventure to anyone interested in ancient Peru because it was amazing! Thank you, Go Ahead. Your tours are the best!

This is a wonderful trip for the price. Peru could be difficult to navigate on your own, particularly if you want to see Lima as well as Cusco. The price of this trip was wonderful. The pace is challenging due to altitude and walking expectations, but they give you fair warning in the brochure. Highly recommened.

OUTSTANDING!

This was my first tour ever, and so it was the best! The director could not have been better, the scenery was fabulous, the food delicious (except for the guinia pig which was 'interesting'), and the history the highlight. The down sides? The last extra dinner in Cuzco, the altitude (but worth it), and .... well, that's about it. I'd love to return but to see some other spots like Lake Titicaca, especially if we could have the same director.

Machu Picchu Was Amazing But Need More Time There

The main attraction of this tour, Machu Picchu, exceeded all expectations but this tour needs to be restructured so that more time is devoted to Machu Picchu and less to Lima and Cusco. For most people on our tour the total time actually spent at Machu Picchu was two or three hours out of a ten day tour. There was the option to stay later in the day and we decided to do that. There also was some time to visit the next morning but few on our tour took that option as you had to find your own tickets and make your way on your own.
Hotels were ok. Food was generally excellent. City tours in Cusco were also excellent. And, tour was a good value given the current cost of airfare to Lima and Cusco. This would be a difficult trip to make on your own unless you are well traveled in South America.
The trip could be improved greatly by adding at least one night and one full day to the time spent in Machu Picchu.

Peru

1. Scheduling was poor. After a long flight to Lima, we had a full day tour followed by a free day. This should have been reversed.
2. Some tours strated at 2 pm. These should have been morning tours, especially with the age of the tour group (seniors).
3. We all came to see Machu Micchu, yet we only had one night there. This should be extended to two nights. The local guide rushed us to the top, leaving little time to see and discuss anything. I think he forgot he had a senior group.
4. Our tour guide, Edwin, was excellent, and he tried to fill our 11 days despite the many "free days".
5. The highlight of our trip was the Rain Forest, and the trip down the Amazon. that, plus Machu Picchu, made the trip memorable and worthwhile. However, because of all the free days, and bad tour planning as mentioned, I would hestitate taking another tour with Go Ahead.

Trip to be remembered

What a breathtaking experience! Our trip was well planned for the most part. The only part that could be given some thought is the flight back for Cuzco on Sat. and then touring in Lima for most of the day, then the midnight flight back to sthe USA. When we got home it had been 39 hours with out a bed. It took severeal days to catch up on sleep.
We had a great time and I am glad that we were able to see the country.

Ancient Peru & Machu Picchu

This was a great tour and I'm so glad I took it. Our tour guide, Edwin was great and went out of his way to take care of the group. The whole area around Cusco is really beautiful. The food was great. I thought the pace was really good. There were several days that you could do whatever you wanted. I like photography so it gave me time on my own to "do my own thing".
This was the first tour I've taken by myself. The whole tour group made me feel welcome.

My wife and I decided to tour Peru for our 30th wedding anniversary. We both agreed after our tour that this trip should be on everyone's "bucket" list. Peru is a very diverse country. Their culture and communities are very welcoming to tourists. The views were spectacular, their foods an exciting adventure every day, and the hotel accomudations made our trip very enjoyable. Machu Picchu is the cornerstone of the trip, but we highly recommend adding the Amazon excursion. We cannot say enough good things about "Go Ahead Tours", and the high end service they provide. What a fascinating place! I had dreamed of seeing Macchu Pichu and the Nazca Lines for years, and I was thrilled to get the opportunity. Our guide, Edwin, was great, and the local guides were excellent. I have been traveling with Go Ahead for 10 years, and I would highly recommend this company to everyone.

Our trip to Peru was a fabulous experience. When we visited Macchu Picchu, it was a clear beautiful day and we took wonderful pictures. Our guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. This was a very challenging trip adjusting to the high altitude, but it was well worth it. Our optional trip to the Amazon was quite a contrast to the mountain area. We really enjoyed visiting the small villages and the school where the children entertained us. We even went Piranha fishing. I would recommend this trip to anyone who is up for the challenge!!

Machu Picchu was incredible! Loved the train too!

Great trip but take your altitude sickness meds (despite what the tour guide says)!
The altitude can put a real damper on your ability to participate and have fun!
I lost 2 entire days of tours due to altitude sickness. You do finally adjust but it takes time. Going to Machu Picchu helped and made it all worth it!
The Amazon extension was also fabulous! A great guide and wonderful experiences meeting the locals was provided. Loved all of the boat rides and being on the river. The accommodations and food was wonderful too!
All in all an unforgettable trip!

Peru trip

What a journey!!!! Our guide Edwin, met all of our expectations and he made each city come alive. It was a constant journey, from present to the past and back again. We are so glad we took part in this trip and recommend it highly.
Thank you, Go Ahead for such nice memories. It was a trip of a lifetime!!

WOW!

Great experience! Tour director Edwin was attentive to our every need. Peru was truly a unique place to visit: the history, the people, the desert, the mountains, and the rainforest. Machu Pichu was spectacular! On top of all that, I got to travel with some wonderful people!

Excellent Tour Guide

Our Tour Guide Edwin Agreda was an excellent tour guide, one of the best tour guides I have had on the many tours I have taken. He had an extra measure of the main quality a tour guide needs: patience. This was my first trip to South America after two to Asia and several to Europe. Visiting Machu Picchu was, of course, the highlight of the trip. But I also enjoyed visiting the village on the Amazon extension and seeing the children of the village in their one room school. It was similar to a tour of Vietnam & Cambodia (not with Go Ahead Tours) when we visited a day car center and a school. Tours with human contact with the people of the country you are visiting are special.

Most incredible place I've been

It has finally sunk in that I really went to Machu Pichhu. I was really there. All my life I have seen this place on TV and didn't really believe I would ever get there.
I am moderately disabled and thought this might be beyond me but made it through the whole tour (not gracefully but who cares) and Edwin (tour guide) was very helpful with those last big steps when I was really tired. And the rest of the tour was wonderful also.
I have learned to love the Andes best all mountain ranges thru 2 of your South American tours.
