The dream of a life time

I have wanted to visit Ireland since I was a "wee lad". Being Irish & growing up in an Irish family & going to an Irish school, Ireland has always been a magical land to me. Our trip did not disappoint in the least. We saw all the places I'd heard of since I was a boy and even some I'd never heard of. And it's true what they say, "There are a thousand shades of green." I've traveled a lot and have never found people more friendly or helpful than the Irish people. They couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. I wanted to take a day trip on my own to see the town where my grandfather was born in 1884. Our tour guide, Allie, was very helpful in finding out all the information I needed to make that dream come true. Now that I'm home, I truly feel I have another home in the Emerald Isle. Our trip helped to make that a reality for me. I'll never forget The Grand Tour of Ireland.

Excellent Trip!!!

I went on this trip with my family (parents, 2 brothers, sister) and boyfriend. And we had an AMAZING time! Our tour guide, Jonathon, was very nice and knowledgeable. He knew everything. And always had those little tid-bits that were interesting for each place we visited. We saw as much of Ireland as we possible could in 2 weeks! I really feel like I got to experience the country at its best, whether it was in the smaller towns or the bigger cities. All the sights in Dublin and pubs. Temple Bar. The Waterford showroom. The horse stud farm. The Blarney Castle. ALL the castles we saw (and their were alot) were great! The Cliffs of Moher. The Giant's Causeway. The Ring of Kerry. The Belleek China store. Good food everywhere. Lots of soup. And of course wonderful cider and Guinness! I thought all the hotels were very nice. And our bus driver was great too! i would recommend this trip for anyone who wants to discover Ireland!

Thank you for your review. Sounds like you had a great time in Ireland. I will be going on this same trip in July alone and wanted to get your opinion on the average age of people in the group? I am in my mid 30's and this is my dream trip so I want it to be perfect.

A good overview of the country

This tour will give you a good overview of the whole of Ireland without tiring you out. It is very well paced with mostly 2 night stays. The tour guide and driver were both excellant.

Glimpses of a lot of Ireland

The tour covered a lot of ground but way too much time was allowed for doing nothing ("bathroom and lunch breaks").

Ireland at your feet

Our tour guide Tom promised us the greatest sights and sounds of Ireland and he delivered! We went to see if the greens were as green as they said and were they ever. Each turn gave us a more spectacular and magnificent view then the last. If you want to see and feel the beauty of ireland this is a must. As Tom would say "Look, Ireland at your feet:." It was obvious he loved it and so did we.

Ireland Tour

The tour fit well for many different kinds of travelers. There were people who had to have assistance to walk and then others who were avid walkers. Each person had the chance to see everything and to enjoy the trip. The guide and the coach driver were accepting of all the travelers and wanted each person to have a relaxing vacation. The entire tour was wonderful and I would recommend it to any person I talk to!

This tour of Ireland is a delight. The pace is comfortably busy. We saw much more than we could have traveling independently. I can't say enough about our tour director. He brought the history, the literature and music of Ireland alive. With humor and good cheer he introduced the people of Ireland to us. Having been on several go ahead tours, our expectations are always high. Your tour guides are always the highlight of the tour but Tom Quinn surpasses them all. He is a delight and great fun. While I wish we had more time in Belfast, I'm not sure where you would take the time from. It was a well balanced tour. Thank you for a terrific trip.

grand tour of ireland

I am writing this on my wife's review. We had a terrific time on this tour. Tom our guide did a terrific job of introducing us to the literary, poetic, magical and historical landscapes of Ireland. He is a scholar and poet, himself. We have been reliving the trip with our pictures and comparing our trip with friends who have traveled to Ireland and we feel we saw everything we needed to see. We had rain two out of fifteen days and no problems with the major attractions. i even enjoyed the Blarney castle experience which had been downplayed somewhat by previous travelers who related to us that it was a bit of a disappointment. i found the park delightful, the climb to the top of the tower an adventure and kissing the stone an iconic experience. We also enjoyed our free time in Dublin and saw the bog men in the national museum and visited the Beaty museum with more manuscripts than Trinity College. We had a very good experience in Derry, walking through bog side, talking to the locals about their experiences during the troubles, visiting with the bog side artists and seeing the murals. I was moved by the mural depicting a fourteen year old girl who was killed in 1971. The artist placed a butterfly in the corner of the mural that was unpainted. The artist was going to fill in that symbol of rebirth after the troubles ended. With President Clinton's help, the troubles have ended, but are not over. The butterfly is now half painted in. It is a symbol of hope that eventually, the troubles will be completely over. Forty shades of green and forty shades of gray, that's Ireland. We had torrential rain during the jaunting cart rides in Killarney and laughed through the entire experience because it was sooooooo Irish. We really appreciated Tom's reading to us from Irish authors as we traveled through areas where those authors lived and worked, i.e. Yeat's grave and church yard and playing traditional music appropriate to the places we were going to like "Galway Girl" in Galway Tommy our bus driver was referred to by Tom as "our only man". He did a good job, but Tom is also our only man, too. Great trip. Thanks Dave Strang

Awesome Ireland!!

I had already read reviews online that Tom Quinn was a favorite Tour Director of travelers to Ireland, and I certainly can see why. I think it's accurate to say that everyone felt very well cared for & looked out after. After a few days into the tour, I could begin to see all the details that Tom had to stay on top of, and he did a marvelous job at it. Everything went so smoothly because he was so well organized. That was hughly important, and then he was so knowledgeable about all the places we were seeing through the bus windows, those at which we stopped, and Irish history & culture in general. He joined us for meals and conversation and became very much a part of our fond memories of Ireland! Tommy Manning of the Manning Tour Bus Lines made a great addition to our trip, too, as he also was friendly, prompt, and very generous, even taking the group to town a couple nights after hours for events that Tom had told us about.
The tour plan worked out very well, although sometimes I wanted to stay longer at a place. However, I certainly realize that the trip would have taken twice as long had I been able to! My favorite places were The Rock of Cashal, The Cliffs of Moher, the Connamera Mountains, the Ring of Kerry, Kylemore Abbey, and Glendalough. I also enjoyed seeing Belleek Pottery being made (by hand!), and the cities of Dublin, Galway, and Waterford City. The historic Granville Hotel at Waterford City was especially lovely!! The scenery--Ireland's gems--was simply breathtaking!!
Lesser exciting places were Northern Ireland--especially Derry & Belfast (although I'm glad I got to see them anyway), and the National Stud Farm. I also appreciated having a couple of hours in the afternoon on most days to explore the cities on our own and to shop. Although before I left, I said apologetically that we would be going on a tour, I know now that we would have missed so much if we would have gone just on our own.

First European Tour...a memorable experience

Ireland is a wonderful place to visit. People are friendly, food is good, history is phenomenal, picture taking is bountiful, pubs and entertainment unsurpassed.
Go Ahead Tours makes the trip simple but rewarding. Their bus drivers and tour guides are first class. Most hotels were up to date and clean. Some did not have air conditioning but open windows and fans on request instead. One put us in a room near the band which kept us awake til after midnight. We should have asked to be moved. I rated this trip a 9 out of 10 and found the money well spent.
