Lisbon was excellent

My husband and I enjoyed the Lisbon City Stay. The hotel was a little off the beaten track, so to get to downtown, taxis were the best bet. Not having the hotel in the downtown area made it difficult to spend part of the day downtown, relax for a while in the hotel, and then go back out.
Other than the location of the hotel, we enjoyed the experience immensely and recommend City Stays for anyone wanting more freedom to pursue their own interests while still having a great resource in the tour director, who is available to you whenever needed.

Lisbon City stay

Need to stay downtown (plenty of hotels in the city center area) than in the suburbs. I would rather stay at a 3 star hotel and be downtown than a 4 star place where we were (Sana Metropolitan). It really would have made this trip a 4.5 star attraction.

Could have been better

A "City stay" hotel location should be in the city - the downtown city center -- not removed to a mediocre business area. Of 7 trips this was the worst for hotel location and proximity to attractions. We traveled on the Nov.5, 2011, tour.
We did walk to and from a wonderful museum (Museu Calouste Gulbenkiam) the first day and the hotel staff thought we should not have done that. Later, a taxi driver told us not to walk to and from our hotel especially after dusk.
The bus tours were too short -- should have been expanded to full days (to allow for eating, shopping and sightseeing) for all trips except for the Lisbon City tour. However, the Castle St. George should have been included or at least pointed out to us during the "paid" City tour. We had to back track that afternoon to visit the castle and lost valuable time. Our guide did not introduce each day to our bus driver, nor did he tell us if we would or would not see the driver the next day. Consequently, the bus driver was not well compensated for his driving.
Our tour guide, Rafael, could have done better and he did suggest other activities when we were not on the bus but he could have offered to take us around on his own (other guides on other trips have done this). We would have gladly paid him even to take us to his favorite spots and maybe for a special Lisboa dinner. He did, on his own, provide us with very fresh Pasteis de Belem while on the City tour and we ALL really enjoyed this wonderful treat. The little pies were warm from the ovens! The hotel should have had them to sell each day! They were not on the hotel pastry/bread breakfast offering.
The tours of Sintra, Cascais, and Evora were great. Evora was the best because we had more time. The two-day extra tour extension option could have been an overnight in Evora and an overnight in Sintra. Then you would have had more people taking the Extension!
Lisbon is a beautiful old city and well worth another visit and for a longer time. We should NOT have to take a taxi to see the City when on a "City-Stay" tour. I would not recommend this particular tour. Next time, stay in the City Center!

City Stay in Lisbon

I liked that the travel to neighboring cities was very convenient , by Metro, Train or Bus. And Lisbon was a beautiful and exciting city at night to walk the City, explore fantastic restaurants and felt safe traveling by taxi. The city was one of the cleanest that I've seen in my travels and had a nice mix of history and modern attractions.

Disappointing Lisbon City Stay

Hotel was very nice but located too far from the city. Had to take cabs to get back and forth, even to enjoy another place besides the hotel for dinner as there were no restaurants in the area. Very noisy, sounded like the planes were directed right at the hotel. Also, the city tour should have been included in the price, not an extra charge. On our city stays in Paris, Rome and Venice, the city tour was part of the package. Not sure why Go Ahead didn't include this with the trip package. Didn't consider this a city stay!

Overall good tour

The flight to me was one of the most challenging parts of the trip. For instance the flight to Chicago was great, then once we got to Chicago it really went down hill from there. We had a 7 hour lay over ,but we received a complementary hotel room which was great ,but then we had to wait an hour to get the shuttle to pick us up. Then once at the hotel and settled in we only had an hour to rest and then we were back on the shuttle going to the airport which having the room became pointless, it just seemed more of a hassle then anything. It would be better next time if we didn't have the lay over and we got to our destination faster, we then landed in London which was a horrible experience because the plane had left early and left 30 of its passengers behind! Then the plane comes back and we finally get to our destination a beautiful city which we were happy that we had finally made it then we discover that our luggage is lost somewhere so now we are at this beautiful city and tired and feel disguising and we have no luggage. After 2 days of being in the same disguising clothes and getting 10 different stories from the airline we finally get our bags after all this was resolved it was a good trip. The only details that I didn't care for where that the hotel was so far from any kind in the city such as shops and restaurants we had to take a taxi to almost everywhere which I think is a cost that could be avoided easily and maybe we can have more activities included in our tour and that we lost 2 whole days off our trip due to traveling. On a better note I would like to say that our tour guide was amazing!! she was fun and enjoyable.Lisbon was a amazing and beautiful city and I would love to visit it again.

Lovely Lisbon

Starting on February 19, 2011, my trip to Lisbon began and so did many lovely impressions. The people were friendly, the architecture was both modern and ancient, the tiles adorning the facades of buildings were intricate and striking in color, the Fado dinner and show was fun, the excursions to villages and towns were picturesque, Rafaela, our tour guide was informative and charming, there were museums to fascinate and the best fresh filet of sole meal was dined on overlooking the ocean one afternoon.

The Hidden Treasure of Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon is a jewel in Europe. It has history, art, music, style and a relaxed attitude that beckons you to absorb its culture at your leisure. Our tour gave us enough knowledge of Lisbon during scheduled activities that encouraged us to seek out our individual interests on free time. The optional excursions were especially good. Our group was very fond of Sintra and Fatima. We highly recommend the Lisbon City Stay!!!

perfect times in lisbon

This trip was the perfect amount of organized activities and on-your-own time. I couldn't have planned it better. Our tour guide (Rafaella) gave us tips on where to go and the easier/best ways to get there. She was also very knowledgeable of the history and I love learning about the past of cities. Evora was my favorite part because we went and saw the bone chapel of a local church. It's a little country town and you wouldn't expect something like that to be there. I definitely recommend this trip who wants to see the best of Portugal- a country that usually gets overshadowed by Spain but has it's own unique flare.

Lisbon City Stay

Hotel location was bad---not close to anything--had to take cabs---flight schedule was not good---three flights to get there-------three flights to get back home----daily trips all optional--more cost----if you never traveled anywhere you might enjoy this for a first time trip.

Fun in Portugal!

Our trip to Portugal was wonderful. The tours were very organized and we had the best tour guide, Rafeala. If you like castles, Cathedrals, wine, art, and lots of history....you will love Portugal! It's a beautiful country and the people are very nice. Our hotel was lovely and we started each day in a beautiful dining room with a buffet to please anyone. Our tour bus was very modern, clean and comfortable. There is lots of walking, too, but it's the only way to see the beautiful towns and winding streets! Our entire group really enjoyed the trip.
