Lots of History and Culture

What a great trip, so much to see and do. Rome is a "Must See" city and Sorrento is sooooo beautiful. What a neat little place to hang out in. Shopping in Italy is always fun, but Sorrento is so quaint and fun. Greece was full of surprises. I didn't know about it's history, and it had the best food ever ! Loved the wine and Greek salads. Fun shopping in Athens too! IF you can walk - its a great place to go and explore. Sept. offered perfect weather without all the crowds. Perfect time to go.

Excellent value

GoAhead takes care of everything and ending the day in a marvelous hotel doesn't hurt. Perfect pace, well organized and great location for hotels. Bravo!!
We had a great time and will be back next year.

Trip to Italy and Greece and Italy

First I have to start by saying that I very much enjoyed Italy and parts of Greece. I feel that combing two countries into one trip was too much. I would have like to have spent more time in Italy alone, instead of feeling rushed through both countries. The two disappointments for me were the vatican tour and the 7 hour ferry ride to and from Santorini. The vatican tour was extremely crowded and I felt rushed. I understand that Go Ahead can't do anything about the extreme crowds, but I didn't feel like an afternoon of only a few short hours was enough time to take in such a monumental moment in my life. I didn't feel as if I saw enough there that day. Also the ferry ride to Santorini was not very well described in the Go Ahead tour information before booking the extension. For some reason our tour director booked seats outside on top of the ferry for us on the way there and as it was early in the morning it was cold outside. Then when one of us suggested that we pay a little bit more for seats inside, she agreed and we had booked seating in the lounge on the way back to Athens. The only other disappointment for me was that our tour lacked visits to art galleries. That is not Go Ahead Tours' fault. I knew that the itinerary included visits to archeological sites more so than to places like museums and art galleries. Our trip last year to Spain seemed to be a more well rounded trip with more of a variety of activities. Our weather was great and our tour guide "Gloria" was a real character. She gave us a lot of laughs. Our accomodations were quite good and well located. The food on the trip was very good. All in all a good trip - it just didn't knock it out of the ball park for me. I would not recommend this trip for art reasons but I would for reasons of history and culture. I still had a very good time.

This tour is full of surprises! You don't only visit the cities, you become part of them. Some of my highlights were tasting the lemons in Sorrento, cruising around the Island of Capri on a mini-boat, walking on the stepping stones through Pompeii, throwing a coin in the Trevi Fountain (so I can return to Rome someday), hearing perfect acoustics in Epidaurus, and walking through the Plaka in Athens. It was amazing!

Great time for us!

This was one of those "the best of..." tours that went to places I wanted to see again and my wife to see for the first time. I visited Naples, Capri, Rome, and Athens in the '70s while in the US Navy, but this time I was with my spouse, other family members, friends, and acquaintances who soon became friends. The hotels were great! The daily buffet breakfasts were a time to visit and get the day ahead in context. This tour was a great blend of structured tours and free time. The hotels were located so that we could make the free time "count" and did a lot of "penny walks" in Athens and Rome. Pool time in the afternoons was a great time to get to know each other in the group and to connect. The highlight, though, was the extension for 4 days in Santorini...it was the perfect setting to relax and reflect about the places, people, and experiences we had while in Italy and Greece. Just a great time for us.

I am suggesting to Others to Not Go in July/August

The sites were interesting and educational. I do not suggest that anyone specifiy Delta as the airline flights across the Atlantic, due to their lack of timeliness. I suggest to other travelers that July and August are the hottest times of the year for Italy and Greece, and the most crowded times.
If you want to walk 4-8 miles a day in 95-100 degrees Fahrenheit, you will enjoy tour. Otherwise, select a 2 day tour for Vatican, a separate 2 days for other sites in Rome, a separate 5 days for Athens and southern Greece, and at least 3 days to relax and rest at end of the tour at Santorini Island, south Greece. Tour guide was excellent. Having to pay tips to each bus drivers was not enjoyable. The overall tour was good, except for hot temps.

Italy and Greece at their best

Our tour guide was excellent. I have been on many tours with other companies and Dina Incelli is one of the best guides I have had.

Italy & Greece

The tour was fantastic! Rachel White was our tour director. She did an awesome job of providing general and specific information about our tour. Rachel speaks many languages, so I took comfort in her wide range of skills. The tour guides were extremely well-versed in their information. All of the staff members were interested in our well-being, and in our having a fun and educational trip!

Italy and Greece

Wonderful!! Fantastic!! Our very first tour and our tour of a lifetime since I have just retired. It was exactly what I wanted to see, classical Italy and Greece. I was able to touch the antiquities that I have read about and dreamed about since 5th grade, - the Coloseum, the Forum, Pompei, the Parthenon, tossed in were the beauties of Capri and Santorini and evenings spent at local cafes with pitchers of local white wine and new friends. Our tour director, Dina, was a great group leader. She helped our group gel with esprit de corps, called us her "Lambs", tried to teach us some Italian and Greek, managed all technical aspects (hotels, buses, planes), and I will eternally remember whenever I travel in the future, her phrase: "Have you hugged your passport today" as we drove away from that day's motel. Goahead's mixture of structured and free time with options is perfect for us. We are so fortunate that a friend recommended this group!

Memories of the Heart

I will never forget our blue, white, and gold trip to Italy and Greece. Those are the colors of the memories I carry. It was the trip I've waited for all of my life, and I was not disappointed. The white washed buildings on the hills, the clearest blue waters as far as we could see, the golden sunsets as we watched the world go back to sleep. It all seemed too fast, but we saw enough of the main points to know we must go back again at a more leisurely pace to further explore. A week after we got back, our house was broken into, and I lost my camera and all of my pictures. What they couldn't steal was the Italy and Greece in my soul.

Fun Trip and Group

Having a small group made this trip better. We got to do more because there wasn't a lot of people that we had to wait on to finish seeing stuff. We all got along great and pointed out things the others may have missed. Our tour director was great and even joined in our fun and hanging out together. We all hung out even on our free time. Truly a wonderful trip.

My husband and I were totally satisfied with this tour. Our tour director was very organized, had everything ready for us, and there was no waiting at places like the Vatican and Parthenon. Perhaps what we were most satisfied with was the fact that Go Ahead hired local guides at every major site. These guides spoke excellent English and gave us wonderful, pertinent information about each place we visited. It made our entire trip much more meaningful. Our hotels and meals were also very good. I definitely will take another tour with Go Ahead.

Wonderful trip

I had a wonderful trip. We covered almost everything that we planned to do. Our director was a wonderful person. All of our guides were very knowledgeable and informed us of everything. I noticed one thing that I think sometimes they tried to tell us so much, that we wouldn't remember all of it, as I noticed others got very restless and wanted to keep moving. Maybe they could cut down there speech somewhat. We really wanted more time to take pictures. Some things we couldn't go back to, so we would miss out on a picture that we wanted as the tour guide kept us moving. I felt we had enough time on our own to do what we wanted and I loved the small group, as we all stayed together most of the time. We also most all of us took all the extra tours. I would definately go with Go Ahead Tours again, but at my age 69, I would prefer to do middle way and not quite so much walking.
