This was our first trip to Egypt and our first experience with Go Ahead Tours. We were extremely pleased with the tour and especially our guide Atef, who intelligently and proudly explained Egypt's amazing history and current social, religious and political conditions. The pace of the trip is brisk, although we never walked more than 3 miles in a day, and we often wished we had more time in the fabulous museums. The quantity and quality of the antiquities is beyond belief. Trravel advice: We traveled in November and the weather was perfect Take a lot of $1.00 and $5.00 bills (US) to buy from small vendors -- they never have change. Also, learn to say "NO" effectively. Don't miss Abu Simbel -- it is worth the additional fee. If available, take the option of a non-stop flight to Cairo and avoid hassles of lost luggage and delayed flights. If you want hours to shop this is not the tour for you, but if you want to learn about the history, religion and culture of Egypt this trip is perfect!

Of all the vacations I have taken this was definitely the vacation that gave me the most appreciation for the history of the ancient world. To see what was accomplished during the peak of the Egyptian empire is truly amazing. Processing the thought that these giant monuments, temples, and tombs were built without modern technology or heavy machinery inspires a sense of awe.
Our tour guide Amr not only did an excellent job overall with the tour, but made our safety during the time his foremost concern. One would think of safety concerns being in a country that is in the middle of a revolution. Although you could see signs of this from time to time at no point was there ever a feeling that we were unsafe while in the country. The people of Egypt were extremely polite and were very welcoming to tourist.
Word of advice in reference to the excursion would be to definitely book the Abu Simbel trip. An excursion that wasn't listed on the GAT site but came up was hot air ballooning in Luxor near the Valley of the Kings. This was absolutely breathtaking and a must do if available.
All in all it was an excellent trip especially for the value given.

Detail and level of personalized service from greeting at arriving airport through departure was excellent. The pace was a perfect balance of touring and drown time. Accommodations excellant Security very good---never had a concern about personal safety during the trip. A comment I believe is unique to visiting a country like Egypt in a post revolution time period. International travelers have become accustomed to traveling in an age of ATM machines. Therefore they tend not to carry a lot of cash on arrival to a country. The accessibility of ATMs is not plentiful in a post revolutionary Egypt. Additionally, there was a greater desire than normal for US dollars vs the Egyptian pound. Even after accessing an ATM it was difficult if not impossible to secure exchange for large Egyptian pound notes for smaller denominations. Even the hotels did not have the ability to provide smaller denominations. Also experienced for the first time merchants charging a percentage fee (not taking about the inter nation exchange rate charged by the card companies) if using a credit card.
Incredible, Amazing, and mind boggling - how did they build those pyramids and temples? Floating down the Nile is the way to see the sites. To be learning of the history while the revolution was making new history was life changing.

I am so glad that I chose GO AHEAD TOURS for this most memorable experience of a life time my visit to Egypt .I must comment on our tour guide atef he was the greatest
I just loved Egypt! It was quite a remarkable trip, seeing all the sights that we did, it was like having History come alive! Our director/tour guide was fantastic! He is so proud of Egypt and the Egyptians. He shared insights into the history, religion, politics, and made us so much more aware of what is going on. He was thoughtful, and made sure that anyone who had problems got them taken care of. I couldn't get over the contrast of Cairo, what a huge modern city and yet some of its neighborhoods were so anitquated, a step back in time. Everything that the itinerary said happened and it was so planned and trouble-free! this was our first tour group trip, and it was very, very, positive! We enjoyed the food and the company.

This tour is very good, but it becomes fabulous when you add the extension to Petra. Petra is definitely the highlight of the trip, and unquestionably the best of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Another "must see" is the optional excursion to Abu Simbel. I feel that Goahead doesn't promote these enough, as only three other people on our tour went to Petra, in addition to our own group of four. Another exciting "optional" is the hot air balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings. It's actualy much less expensive than such a ride costs back in the U.S.

My wife and I have traveled extensively but never had taken a packaged tour. What a fantastic first experience. Atef, our tour director and Egyptologist, was outstanding. He offered both an in-depth understanding of all that we were seeing and experiencing as well as helping us to understand much of what is going in Egypt today. Everything about our trip- the transportation, accommodations, food, the itinerary, and people providing service and support met or exceeded our expectations. We look forward to our next Go Ahead tour!!

The tour guide was one of the best I have ever had. The hotels/cruise ship were comfortable. I felt comfortable/safe throughout the trip. I appreciate the discount on the single supplement, wish you could eliminate it completely. Other agencies have. Think about it as I like to travel solo.

While I don't classify this as standard "relaxing" vacation, I had a blast. The best part in my mind was the tour director. He was excellent and made the trip very entertaining. He clearly knew his egyptology and was not afraid to share his knowledge.

The trip was awesome, The only problem was the extension to Jordan/Petra. The Egypt/Nile protion was outsatnding. My wife and I cvould not have been happier. Fantastic. The problem was you outsourced the Jordan tour and changed the Hotels with out telling us. The tour director was unaware of the changes which made him look unprepared. He was also unaware of our departure times these problem lead to confusion which could have been avoided if we had our original tour director.

If the experience you want is primarily visits to the ancient pyramids, temples and monuments, then this is quite comprehensive. Although I realized that is what the tour would primarily consist of, I was also hoping and thinking that we would also get some exposure to current Egyptian life. Other than the drive-bys on our way to the monuments and 1 visit to a market, there was none of this. This could have easily been integrated by at least having meals in typical Egyptian eateries. Instead, all of our meals (except one) were buffets at the hotels which were mostly westernized, tasteless meals. On a positive note, the ancient monuments are truly magnificent and awe inspiring.
the tour was very educational for me, to actually see the prymids and tombs, huge statues was amazing. i will never forget my experience in egypt, hope someday to go again. the tour guide was great also. i have recommended this tour to my family and friends

The trip was more challenging than I had thought it would be. However the tour director and tour mates were very solicitous of me throughout. The trip was fascinating in the sites that we saw. I couldn't believe the longevity of some of the statues and objects of art and antiquity. The poverty of the people and the paucity of jobs and opportunities struck me and I felt almost embarrassed by our comforts. The constant company of an armed security guard was a bit unsettling at first, but later it was just a fact of the trip. All in all the trip was one of a lifetime. I'm glad I went when I did.

I travelled to Egypt November 2009 with my son, who was 19 . We both had a wonderful time. The things we saw were amazingl. My favorite part of the trip was our extension to Mt Sinai. To stand in a Holy place where God spoke to Moses (the Burning bush) was very spiritually moving. To Snorkle in the Red Sea is something that I will never forget. The artifacts came to life for me and my son with the help of our tour Guide Hushem. His knowledge was phenomena, he really made the History come to life for us. He shared some good stories and I felt blessed to be in his presents. I would recommend this trip to anyone planning to travel to Egypt. Everyone who saw our pictures of the places we stayed to the things saw at the places we visited all said that it was magificent. The trip left me speechless.

I was on the Egypt and Nile Tour leaving NYC on January 20 to Cairo. Unfortunately, we had to leave Egypt 2 days early on January 30 due to the escalation of the demonstrations against the government and Mubarak. Kudos to Go Ahead Tours and especially our guide, Hisham, for first of all, the most wonderful travel experience/tour I could every have imagined; and for Hisham’s and Go Ahead Tours for our speedy and safe exit from Cairo. I experienced an EF tour previously and although our guide, Ricardo, was extraordinarily well informed and personable, my expectations were exceeded with Hisham. My friend told me before I left, “I hope you get someone as good as Ricardo for your guide.” I didn’t, I got someone better! I have never met anyone who had so much knowledge – more than I’ll ever acquire on Egypt – but could convey it in such a way that the lay person could grasp it. He has a great personality, joked with us, kept us on task, and informed us of the basics – customs, food, toilets, etc. We were constantly on the go, but no one complained or seemed to get tired. We were seeing and doing so much! He was patient with our rote/mundane questions; he gave us fun quizzes on what we’d seen; he switched us around on the bus so we sat by someone new. All 30 of us knew one another when we left; and we felt like an “Egyptian family”; and we were sorry to have the tour end. Hisham, his coworkers in Egypt and all those who expedited our departure are to be commended. Hisham and his coworker never left us alone and made the process easy and most of all safe. I was never worried or felt afraid. When flying home to NYC/JFK, we heard some very disturbing stories from other passengers on the plane. We felt blessed. My friends and I are already talking of another adventure and we all agree, the only company we will go with is Go Ahead Tours! My thoughts and prayers are going out to Hisham, his family and friends, and all the citizens of Egypt. I hope they remain safe and enjoy the democracy they have fought for. Thank you for the trip of a lifetime!

From the moment we set foot on Egyptian ground we were totally amazed at the land and people. From seeing the Great Pyramids, to cruising on the Nile, to exploring the temples of the gods. This land is rich in history and wonderful people. The hot air balloon at sunrise was a total amazing experience! To see the Nile, then the farmers fields and finally the Valley of the Kings mountains - I was in awe! Our guide was truly a book of knowledge and you will learn more than you ever knew about this land.

First of all, our guide, Amr Osman, was fantastic. We couldn't have hand-picked a nicer group of people and the trip was over-all very nice.--well organized and pleasant. For $400 each we could have skipped the Abu Simbel extension trip. The Nile boat was a little run-down, but the Feluccas were great. The hotel in Giza could also use a face lift, but the other hotels were fine. We were able to see a whole lot more than if we had gone by ourselves and we enjoyed it very much. Good job.

We saw and learned a lot about the country, culture, it's history and it's people. It is always such an education to visit foreign countries and witness the day to day lives of its people.

From our arrival in Cairo to our departure from Cairo, we always felt cared for, respected, and even protected by a guard whom we thought of as a border collie - rounding us up after each visit. We were in awe of our Egyptologist tour guide, Hisham Elsayad, who, at each and every site, gave us complete histories, read hieroglyiphs, and even told us how to deal with merchants. The Nile cruise offered an opportunity to relax and even interract with other nationalities, in our case, some Brazilians. But the monuments were truly the highlight of this trip, and they can only be seen in Egypt!
