First time visiting Alaska

This trip was flexible from easy relaxation to high energy work out depending on what side excursions you chose to pursue. It was the perfect initial introduction to such a vast area. Then next time you can choose more specific areas and activities to investigate. The choice of optional excursions was exceptional!

Alaska is a must see for everyone

I HAVE ONE NEGITIVE COMMENT
The box breakfast is a bummer!! PLEASE with this and all other tours that leave before breakfast- just allot the participants $10 to have breakfast in the airport- WHICH IS WHAT WE ALWAYS HAVE TO DO ANYWAY. …ALL THOSE BOXES ARE JUST LEFT ON THE BUS SEAT! A BAD ENDING TO AN OTHERWISE GREAT TRIP. ....

AMEN to the breakfast bag comment.
Whatever the tour company, wherever the trip, these breakfast bags are the same. After wonderful food and wonderful attention to our needs, there is this creepy BAG its unattractive STUFF!
DITCH THE BAG!

The one negitive that I must address:…… because it is a very bad ending to an otherwise wonderful tour is the box breakfast the hotel gives you when you leave in the wee hours of the morning.
PLEASE with this and all other tours that leave before breakfast- just allot the participants $10 to have breakfast in the airport- …a much better solution to make for a happy ending to a great tour.

Wonderful Alaska

First of all, I would recommend a nylon wind breaker or longer rain shedding jacket to anyone taking this trip! It was only pouring rain on us one day, but it can be chilly and misty at almost any time. Comfortable shoes are also a must!
We had absolutely gorgeous weather in Denali National Park, so I can't wait for my DVD to arrive. There is a great DVD available to which our bus driver was going to add the actual footage of the animals and scenery from our trip. He had a video camera with a great telephoto lens, so his filming will be much better than my still pictures!
One excursion per day is a good plan. Many of them are long, with quite a lot of walking. A whale watch is a must, as is a scenic bus trip outside of Skagway. Again, even in the summer, dress in layers and have something waterproof on top!
I would recommend an Alaska trip for everyone. For families with children, I imagine that eight or nine and up is about right, unless the child is a dedicated "green" child or loves wild life.

Great Experience!

I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Alaska both on land and on the ship. We were very lucky to see all that we saw in Denali Park. Our tour guides were very knowledgable and interesting to listen to. I was a first time cruiser and had a great time. There was so much to do that we packed our time both on and off the ship with fun things to do. I would book another vacation with Go Ahead Tours.

Denali - Awesome!

We were very fortunate that our visit to Denali was on a cloudless day! The view of Mt. McKinley was unbelievable - worth the whole trip. Also the visit to Hubbard Glacier, on a perfect day as well. Our local guides and drivers on the land portion of the trip were fantastic. It was rainy on and off for the rest of the cruise, which we were told is more typical Alaska weather, but it didn't keep us from enjoying Juneau, Skagway, Icy Straits, and Ketchikan. The cabin, food, and service on the ship were very good, and the shows were enjoyable. While the land portion, including the visits to the Iditarod headquarters and nature park, along with viewing moose, bears, etc., was the better half of the trip, the cruise was a great experience, too.

Alaska Wilderness.. Where Was it?

Many reviews of amazing wildlife and matching photos led us to believe we were in for an adventure. Alas, we had to be content with the tiny Alaskan ground squirrel after two days of travel through Denali. "You may sight..." would be more appropriate to the advance literature.
We were taken to a protected animal preserve that reminded me of my local zoo.I would rather have has a chance to walk a nature trail.
Too many tourist traps on the cruise stops. The only way to avoid them was to sign on for an overpriced side trip.
Good-bye Alaska. Next time we shall visit on our own.

Denali

Eagle, the coach subcontractor selected for the early part of the tour could not have been better. The driver was pleasant, skilled and knowledgeable. As Mr. Snow, the Tour Director, was worthless, it was well to have Mr. Lester to serve as a tour guide.
The cruise visited some nice places, but otherwise was as ghastly as expected. But what else could it have been, traveling with 2,000 strangers. It would have been nice to have had Mr. Snow make some attempt to group the GoAhead folk from time to time so they might know one another.
It would also have been nice, especially early in the trip, had he gathered all together and introduced them to one another rather than letting everyone remain strangers unless we made an attempt at introductions.
