Amazing Experiece

The trip exceeded my expectations! It was a perfect combination of nature, enchanting medieval towns and cities. Our tour guide Tamara, was charming, well informed and her pride in her roots made this an unforgettable experience!

Tour covered highlights of Croatia (Dubrovnik, Split, & Plitvice Lakes & Zagreb) that we wanted to see, and with add on's of Kotor in Montenegro and Mostar in Herzegovina, plus ending in Ljubljana Slovenia, it's the complete package. The best part was staying two nights in each stopover town so we wern't rushed 'out the door' early each day. Although we came to see Dubrovnik. Split & Plitvice lakes, our favorite town was Ljubljana in Slovenia. Our tour guide was outgoing, vastly knowledgable, sensitive to everyone's issues, and surprised us with some special stops and outings.

Croatia & Slovenia

The itinerary, tour guide and hotels were excellent. We had a great time.
If Go Ahead would include a list of names and cities for tour participants prior to departure that would be a real asset. We could refer to it on the trip and it would help to learn the names of others in our group.

Enter the previously forbidden

This tour was an amazing opportunity to tour previous communist countries which were then a war zone! Such natural scenery and such recent history! Like walking a textbook- Yugoslavia! Much more than historic ruins and famous sites! This is recent newsroom meets untouched beauty!

Excellent Choice

Everything about this tour was fantastic - the weather, the food, the cities, and the people. We were very fortunate to have Tamara as our tour director. She was a wonderful combination of professional and entertaining all while taking care of everyone's needs. The history was fascinating and presented in easy to understand monologues. This is a beautiful area of the world that anyone would enjoy.

This was a totally unexpected delight. I had no idea that the Balkin region was so beautiful, the people so welcoming, and the food so delicious. I would love to go back and spend more time in Ljubliana.

Wonderful travel experience - Croatia to Slovenia

I had no idea how beautiful the former Yugoslavia was and, at least, four of the six countries formed from it are. All our hotels were great, mostly 4 star, which was a treat. Our tour guide was terrific and full of stories about the history of the area. Special tour guides were excellent. Because of the recent war there, it is a very unusual experience. It is one of the most beautiful areas you'll ever see but with a sadness that is inescapable. I would recommend it to anyone interested in history and beauty.

Croatia/Slovenia

Generally a very worthwhile and interesting tour.
STRONGLY object to the tour guide arrangements where, in each city, tipping was required for THAT city's guide as we accumulated the remuneration obligation for our whole trip guide. You ought to be able to manage better to help the traveler avoid unexpected or unforeseen expenses

In the Balkans

The area was extremely interesting and it would pay for a traveler to read several of the recommended books to have and idea of the history of the region. Our tour guide "Tamara" was very knowledgeable and gave us an in depth historical overview. We had a small group which was a real advantage and the extensions to Mostar and Montenegro and the added 3 days to Lake Bled were well spent. The area is all very safe and the people friendly and all strong English speakers. Would return to the area to spend more time in Split and Ljubljana.

Awesome natural wonders in Croatia and Slovenia

Words don't do justice to the natural wonders of Croatia and Slovenia. Around every bend of the road was another beautiful Adriatic seaside village; the scenes were idyllic; the colors of the water marvelous. Plitvice National Park was the highlight of the trip--what could be better than spending a day exploring 16 cascading lakes and literally hundreds of waterfalls? Our group traveled in October which was an excellent month for the weather. Our tour director was phenomenal, and I will ask for her again for my next group tour. We participated in all of the optional excursions which made for an active tour; however, traveling to Montenegro and Mostar helped piece together all parts of the cultural and political puzzle of this part of Europe. I would go back tomorrow! Don't miss this tour!

Not what I expected

The beauty of the seaside cities rivaled any that I have visited in other parts of Europe. Our journey inland to the other cities was a beautiful contrast, with the mountains and the cooler climates. Everyone should visit Plitvice Lakes National Park with its gorgeous blue and green lakes and waterfalls. The city of Ljubljana was also a pleasant surprise, with it wonderful bridges and history. This entire trip was one pleasant surprise after the other, with wonderful people, rich history and beautiful scenery.

This was a wonderful trip. It helped that the weather was perfect, the countries visited pictoresque and the tour mates enjoyable.
But what made it outstanding was the fantastic guide and learning the history of the region with the help of someone who loves the place and is invested in its future.
It was a nice blend of small cities and countryside, scheduled activities and free time. I especially enjoyed the art gallery in Split and the side trip to Mostar.

Exceptionally varied and interesting

We can see why Croatia and Slovenia are regaining their pre-cold war status as premier destinations for Western Europenas and North Americans: hospitable people, wonderfully clean historic cities, picturesque seaside villages and beaches, enchanting interior landscapes, great food, and local wine varieties not often found outside these areas. We truly enjoyed this unique tour.

The Other Italy!

Many folks were surprised that we picked Croatia, etc. for our trip. As we've explained to so many, it was like Italy, just across the Adriatic. We loved the Roman palace at Split, the sea organ at Zadar, the pristine lakes of Plitvice, the ancient walls and hole-in-the-wall bars of Dubrovnik, and the quaint town of Ljubliana. One of our favorite parts of the trip was the accessibility to the sites. Croatia expects you to revel in their heritage; you don't feel pressure from guards or citizens that resent you. Also, it was families all around, so I think it would make for a great first Euro-vacation,

Craotia to Slovenia:Unexplored Europe

Overall the tour was great. The extra time (several hours) to go wine tasting was definitely not worth it. It made a very long drive a great deal longer and uncomfortable. We loved Split but were not crazy about the hotel President - a little too far from the town center. Plitvice was amazing - could have stayed longer! We also felt that the tour should have included a night in Zagreb, a very interesting and pretty city. This tour was a great introduction to Croatia. We will definitely go back.

Croatia and Slovenia: Unexplored Europe

We were in Croatia and Slovenia in May of last year. We especially liked starting in Dubrovnik in the south and heading north. The day trip to Montenegro was okay but a bit long with not too much to experience, although we did enjoy being in more "natural" surroundings and not always tourist centers. Stopping at several towns on our way north was delightful. I would recommend going to Zadar to the "sea organ." Quite different and interesting. Our time in Split was great as well. Loved the trip to Hvar as well as our day there. Plitvice NP was a highlight. Coming from Oregon, we're used to dramatic waterfalls. I didn't expect to be so impressed, but I was--absolutely beautiful! We were in Zagreb for only half a day which was enough. On to Slovenia--Ljubjana is a delightful city as are the Slovenian people. One of the highlights of the whole trip was Lake Bled and the Julian Alps. We LOVED the area and everything we did and saw there. We liked it so much we might go there again. We wholeheartedly recommend this whole itinerary for everyone!
