Seldom does a planned vacation occur where everything goes right.
Our weather in the Rockies was 10 degrees above normal with some record highs. The skies were clear creating vivid colors and reflections in my photographs. The group was punctional and considerate, the hotels and meals were fine. the guide, David, and driver,Roland, provided the group with many opportunities to stop and enjoy the scenery. The bus was clean and comfortable. The Rocky Mountaineer train ride was as scenic a rail trip as I have ever experience.
A great trip

Train ride to long - overrated.

1 day would have been more than enough - All the Mountains, streams, etc all started to look the same.

Canadian Rockies-Helicopter tour option

An optional helicopter tour of the Canmore/Banff area was an excellent choice. The scenery from the air even more spectacular than the beautiful land/water views. The day of the flight brought changing weather patterns and flight plans, but the tour guide successfully juggled schedules and travel arrangments and we had a great tour. A helicopter ride would not normally be in a my "comfort zone", but the trip was well worth meeting the challenge.....and I would love to do it again. A very nice tour option!

Canadian Rockies

The trip was well run by the tour director. Take the trip in the summer as the weather is wonderful. You will need shorts and long pants. Carry a light jacket.

Best Tour guide ever

Trip was leisurely and interesting. The tour guide we had was very knowledgeable and directed us to all the sights to see. He also was able to answer almost all the questions asked of him and was very much a part of the group.
The tour of Canada was fascinating, especially Lake Louise. The Rocky Mountain train was interesting, and some of the sights were unbelievable, but two days on the train was a long time.

Awesome!

Everything about the tour was excellent. The train ride on the Rocky Mountneir was fantastic. The wildlife was amazing. From the train and bus we saw a total of 11 bears in addition to deer, elk, moose, eagles and many more animals. I loved the leisurely pace.

Our Tour Director made this wet trip wonderful.

With some rain falling 11 of 13 days of this trip, we were fortunate to have Alan as our Tour Director. He went above and beyond any Tour Director we have ever had on a Go Ahead Vacation. In addition, our Bus Driver/Guide Bob on the first half of our tour was Amazing and was a wealth of information.
Helicopter ride and Maligne Lake cruise were my favorite, with the Rocky Mountaineer trip added to this list by my husband. Advice to all--eat the salmon whenever you can! Simply out of this world!
Was not pleased with the Marmot Lodge in Jasper. Very stale room, no A/C at all ever and poor service in Restaurant. We hope anyone taking this trip will have much better weather and will see all the wildlife we did! Yeah, bears!

Canadian Rockies

The scenery is magnificent. You cannot take a bad picture. The Canadian Money is easy to handle and the people are friendly and helpful. We had a small group of 15, and all got along well. We hit all the major spots and I took a few optional trips with some others; We rode a horse down a trail; took a raft trip, not too rugged; things I hadn't done in many years. The train ride was enjoyable but a bit too slow for my taste. It was a good mix of regimented sight seeing and time on your own, especially in Vancouver, where a few of us saw a wonderful production of Don Quihote. All in all a very good experience. I recommend it

Canadian Rockies Up Close & Uncomfortable

Of the five tours taken with GoAhead, this was our least favorite. Our hotel in Calgary was 5-star and went down hill from there. The hotel in Vancouver was decent, but not close to any attractions or restaurants and a good walking distance to the bus. Our Tour Director was good and we enjoyed travelling with her.
Banff was beautiful and enjoyed the overlook. Went to the Fairmont Hotel on our own and had a delicous meal on the terrace. The scenery was lovely throughout the trip which was a given as to our location.
In Calgary, we didn;t go to the tower for lunch as the excuse was we had to leave early to get on the road to Banff. Instead we were dropped off at the zoo. I believe our group (40's-80's) had been to zoos before and due to heat, uneven terrain for wheelchairs, it was a total bust. I don't think we made an early get away from Calgary.
At one of the hotels, we were charged for wine that should have been gratis and were not reimbursed or anything.
Our whitewater raft trip had very little whitewater and was very docile even a cave man could do it and probably did.
We could have stayed in Jasper an extra night and still seen Lake Louise and other points of interest. As i said earlier the hotels were on the slide.
The train ride to Vancouver has lovely, but we were in second class and did not have one hot meal for 2 days. One morning, we did have a lukewarm muffin. Kamloops was closed up tight when we arrived and almost impossible to find a postcard or restaurant without walking a good ways.
Vancouver was a wonderful city, the tower was good sight seeing. Didn't get our meal in Chinatown or Oldtown The area betwenn Oldtown and Chinatown was very seedy and we were approached more than once by panhandlers as were others that we talked to later.
The meals were okay, but nothing to rave about. On previous tours we had some rave reviews
All in all GoAhead did not live up to thereputation as we had come to expect after 5 tours. We were very disappointed so I am not inclined to recommend this tour to any of our friends.

sorry you had a bad experience. Go Ahead dropped the zoo a few yrs back as they feedback wasn't positive. In regards to the Rocky Mountaineer Red Leaf is far from 2nd class. The meals are served at your seat and while 'cold' are all excellent. They feed you every two hrs so its hard to imagine you found it not to your liking. I've been leading many of the tours for Go Ahead and I can tell you that they listen to their clients and allow for improvements, far more so than many other tour operators.

North American Splender

I have been to the Swiss,French, Bavarian,Alps and we have our own
amazingly beautiful visuals right here in North America. Stunning Mountain's,
Glacier's ,and Glacier water Lake's and River's,Water Fall's, all within easy
distance to each other.A rugged countyside made fun to travel through
with great professional guides who made the trip a pleasure.Vancouver was
a big surprise.Knew it was special, but it was way better than expected.
Modern, young in adittude, surrounded by water and mountains,a truly
great city. All and all, an amazing trip.

Canadian Rockies

It was a really good trip, most everything went according to plan, would have liked a little more time in Calgary. The train was a bit of a disappointment, as we got stuck for a number of hours and delayed getting into Vancouver.
When we could move, scenery was beautiful. Meals were very nice and Tour Guide was good. I would recommend this tour.
