Rural Landscapes of Ireland and Britain

A wonderful experience! Our tour director was exceptional. She made appropriate adjustments to the tour as problems arose and was able to accommodate special requests without inconveniencing other tour members. She was knowledgeable, personable, and had a great sense of humor. Also, our two drivers were outstanding. The group was small, and all were experienced travelers. All in all, it was delightful.

One of the best tours that I'd ever taken with Go-

This tour really exceeded my expectation. The tour Director, Emma, was more than just a tour Director but also a caring hostess and tour companion. The group was consisted of rather homogeneous people in terms of age, occupational status, and educational attainments. I pictured that we would be travelling through just dull and bucolic lands before taking this tour. My anxiety was completely over turned. It became an exciting and beautiful tour. I enjoyed Dublin, Edingborough as well as London.

Fantastic trip in the UK and Ireland.

My husband and i were celebrating our 40th anniversary and we couldn't have picked a better way to do it! The whole tour was very informative, thanks to our amazing tour guide, Joel. The hotels were good, especially Rossett Hall and the hotel in The Lake District. We were overwhelmed by the beauty of the Highlands of Scotland. and want to go back and see more. One of the tour group hurt her ankle but was well taken of and helped with taxi's etc.We couldn't have been happier with the experience.

Most amazing trip so far

We could not have had a better tour director, David was amazing. He really cared that we got what we paid for. Hotels chosen were of the upmost quality and the people were so friendly. Greg and Ken were our coach drivers and made this amazing adventure even more so. I would have to say my most favorite was Chester and Kilkenny. My favorite stop was the Bronte Parsonage Museum. Although I did not get to kiss the Blaney Stone, I did kiss the picture we took. If ask what the sadest (if any) part of our trip was it would be the Cobb Queenstown story. The death of so many and the trials and tribulations were beyond belief. A very strong people with a will to continue is felt still today. What a wonderful history lesson this trip was. It also reminded us that we are so very blessed thanks to alot of people who gave their lives. This was an absolutely wonderful trip. Thanks go to "GO AHEAD", David Reid, Greg and Kenney.

Ireland and Britain WOW!

My sister and I had a wonderful time. I can't say enough about it. This is a trip I have wanted to experience for many years and at last it is a reality. Our tour director was soooo nice and very informative about the countries and the culture of the people in each place we visited. I don't know what I liked most, the churches and museums, Bronte Parsonage or the unbelievably beautiful countryside. I loved all of it and would recommend this tour to everyone. "Just GO!" My sister and I can't wait for our next adventure. Thanks for a great tour.

Each Day Was Wonderful Adventure
Posted November 27, 2011
My husband and I enjoyed this trip immensely. Each day felt liked it topped the one before with beautiful countryside and scenic beauty. We were a small group and it was a delight to meet every one of our fellow travelers along with Dave, our guide, and our terrific coach drivers. The hotels we stayed at were great, especially the one at Keswick, which was very old and unique. The days were full yet we had time to explore on our own and visit the sites. October was a good time to travel, places were not as crowded. Thank you for another wonderful trip.

Surprising Trip

I like to travel at this time of year because the crowds are reduced in popular sites. I didn't expect the weather would be as good as it was - think we got lucky! Our tour guide was excellent and gave us extra information about places to visit in our free time as well as providing superb commentary on the places we visited together. The tour size of 13 was nice, but some of the optional tours weren't available because so few could sign up. Especially disappointing was the cancellation of the trip to St. Andrews. There wasn't enough time to schedule that on our own without missing the tour in Edinburgh. The pace of the tour was easy. It was good that we often spent 2 days at the same location. I enjoyed both of our coach drivers. They were entertaining and skilled at driving in all the narrow roads and cramped passages. I would hesitate to try some of them in a car!

As first time group tourers, we were apprehensive about bus travel with a group for 2 weeks. The group, the tour director and the bus could not have been better. The rural landscapes were exactly what we expected---breathtaking. Though the sites allowed for great walking, it also made for great viewing from a bench. The Scotish Highlands are a must see, especially if you get a sunny day. We are looking forward to booking our second tour.

Lanscapes of Ireland & Britain

This tour was exactly what it claimed to be. We were very pleased and enjoyed all the beautiful views, points of interest, and activities. Our tour director was very knowledgeable. He gave us lots of background on things we were seeing. It was nice having some choices and freedom to do our own thing some days. Great trip!

Rural United Kingdom trip!

This was a wonderful trip; we got to see classic parts of most of the United Kingdom. There is a lot of time spent on the coach; and our tour director was knowledgeable of the history of the area, so managed to keep us informed. The itineary covered a lot of places and the optional trips were tremendous! There was a historical and literary focus on this tour and many opportunities for shopping.
Opportunities for Improvement:
1. More interaction with locals. (How about a dinner with a rural family? Like the one offered in New Zealand?)
2. I was somewhat disappointed with the unavailability of free WIFI in the rooms of several of the hotels.
3. Need more photo stops....I took too many pics though the coach windows.

Landscape tours of England and Ireland

The tour was great, the weather not good at all. It rained everyday in Ireland. When we went to the Ring of Kerry - could not see a thing! I wish I had studied the itinerary closer, because the extra tours I picked were also all day bus trips, as well as everyday on the bus for the regular tour. For me, it was too much bus time, but that was also my fault for not looking closer into it.
Go Ahead lost my husband's suitcase, which has been a big inconvenience. This situation has not been resolved yet, and I lost priceless pictures in the suitcase, as well as his loss of everything in the suitcase. We have spent considerable time replacing some of the items, and it was unpleasant having to do without things like toiletries, all clothes..

Worst tour I've taken

Not enough time allowed at each location and too much time spent hanging out in hotel rooms.

How not to run a tour

Thiis as my first Go Ahead Tour and it will be my only Go Ahead Tour. The main problem was the guide. Why did Go Ahead Tours provide us with an ITALIAN guide on a tour of Ireland and Scotland and the Lake distirct of England? He did not have a clue about the countries. On long bus rides the guide said NOTHING. There was no explanation about why were stopping at this site, its importance, its place in the country's history. He had no idea of what it was like to live in these countries during the current times. The two bus drivers were more knowledgeable. Since I had trip insurance I was very tempted to cancel the trip after the first few days.. But my wife, who was also very disappointed, was very hopeful that things would get better. They did NOT. The tour was pretty much get on the bus, drive around in silence, get off the bus, take a photo or two and get back on the bus to repeat the terible process. My wife and I have visited thirty countries, some with other tour groups. None were as bad as this.

Rural Landscapes of Ireland & Britain

Of the trips I have taken, this trip was the worst of all, This is in large measure because of the tour director. He didn't appear to be very familiar with the tour. On all other tours, we were on the bus around 7:30 to 8:00 and didn't arrive at our hotel until around 5:00 or later. On this tour, we were on the bus either at 9:00 or 9:30 every day except one and at our hotel usually between 3:00 and 4:00. As a result, we didn't have enough time as some of the sites to see everything, particularly at some of the castles. There was very little dialog from the tour director as to what we were seeing as we drove from one destination to another. If fact, I saw him asleep on several occasions. The bus drivers we had provided far more information the the tour director. Were it not for them, we would have missed several things. When he would get tickets for a castle, he didn't bother to get maps for us. And only after we got inside did we discover that there were maps we could have gotten. The local tour guides we had were very nice and informative. I will say that the tour director was friendly and talked with us individually. And he was very helpful to those who were handicapped or struggled to get on and off the bus. Otherwise, I would have rated him poor.

Rural Ireland and Great Britain, not with Go Ahead

I just returned from a 19 day tour of Ireland, Scotland, rural England, with a three day extension in London. We had a small group of 19, which was very nice, and wonderful, helpful bus drivers. The scenery was beautiful and the cultural sights were impressive, although the rain in Ireland was too much like home for my taste. The accommodations, with one exception, were very nice. If you enjoy the countryside, the Lakes District in England and on into Scotland would be for you. This was my first Go Ahead Tour, recommended by a friend from work. My biggest disappointment was in our tour director. Although he was generally pleasant, he acted as if he had never been to Ireland or Scotland before. There was no commentary on the bus or direction as to what to do once we reached destinations. I was very disappointed and will not be a returning customer, no matter how much the other members of our group said this was not at all like their past tours. I do have to say I had a great time despite the grumblings about the tour director and will return to Scotland and England again but on my own this time.

Beautiful Landscapes

There were 44 on the tour which lowered the quality of the tour. Fortunately, every one was prompt so there were no delays. Tour would have improved 100% if there were no more than 25 people which was the expectation.

Dream trip come true

I had dreamed of visiting Ireland and Great Britain, especially Scotland, since an adolescent. We began in Ireland, went to Wales, then the Lakes District of England, and finally Scotland. Ireland started on a perfect note and each subsequent segment kept getting better and better. By the time we made it to Scotland, I wondered how anything could top what we had seen and done, and yet, true to my hope and dream, Scotland was the best yet.
